It is time for everyone to pay their respects to the VHS. For years the majority of us have been purchasing nothing but DVD’s and we already thought that the VHS had died out. But there were those few who still clung to them and would use them.
But today the death certificate for the VHS was signed by the Distribution Video Audio. They were the last major supplier and they have shipped out their last bit of stock. This supplier made $20 million a year selling these cheap VHS tapes. But now most everyone has caught up with the time and doesn’t try to buy them anymore.
These tapes lived a long life of more than twenty years and were possibly the longest survivor of the war of the formats. Ryan Kugler – president of Distribution Video Audio – does not believe that the DVD will last this long. “The DVD will be obsolete in three or four years, no doubt about it. Everything will be Blu-ray.”
If you ask me I won’t be buying the Blu-Ray until they lower the price. Who wants to pay $30 for one movie?
