NASA Space ShuttleAny of us would grab at the chance to get our hands on an expensive car. But what is a Ferrari or Lamborghini when you can get yourself your very own space shuttle? NASA stated this week that they are contemplating a few ideas on how and where they can put their retired space shuttles. They have already called a few schools, science museums, and “other appropriate organizations” that they will no longer be using.

NASA has estimated each space shuttle to be worth about $42 million for each shuttle. This includes delivery – but they admit that it could cost more than this. People who need it delivered farther will have to fork over more money.

The first of the three shuttles has been bought and will be given to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air & Space Museum in Washington. The other two will be stored at the Kennedy Space Center until someone can pick them up.

In case you thought of purchasing one of these high quality shuttles for yourself and taking a vacation to the moon are out of luck. None of them will come available with the main engines.

NASA said that they will be retiring the Atlantis, Discovery, and Endeavour September 30th, 2010. However, there is still a chance that they might change their minds and keep using them for longer.
