Motorola is working to stop the most recent financial problems by focusing all of its effort into the new Android operating system. The company is hoping that the Android will be similar to the OS - but for cell phones. Already they have put together a team of 350 developers for the Android system to turn it into a mobile business.
Motorola is one of many of the original members of the OHA (Open Handset Alliance) - which is the main backers of Android. The one thing that Motorola and the other members have in common is the fact that they all use proprietary software interfaces. Motorola has always been weak when it comes to the software interface - but this might improve things.
Even though many of their phones like the RAZR V3 have been selling all across the world many users have been turned off by the software capabilities of the phones themselves. They are hoping to turn things for the better by using Google’s Android mobile operating system.
Nokia has already assembled an Android team and they are not an OHA member. They recently bought the Symbian platform that they didn’t own. Though Nokia is determined to keep Symbian going as long as possible, if Android really takes off, we might see substantial changes in the company’s strategy as well.
