AMD 64 Live! LogoDell and its subsidiary, Alienware, announced availablility for its AMD Live! based PCs this week, adding three new applications to its suite. Previously closely tied to Intel and its Viiv program, Dell has apparently chosen instead to feature the AMD solutions.

This week at the Ziff-Davis DigitalLife 2006 event in New York City, Alienware is expected to provide technology demonstrations of the Alienware DHS high-definition media center and a new AMD Live! PC design featuring a integrated home theater amplifier from D2Audio Corporation.

AMD Live! as well as Intel’s Viiv attempt to tie the worlds of consumer-electronic equipment closer to the PC. However, the new AMD Live! software appears more like a traditional PC application. The three new programs are AMD Live! Communicator, AMD Live! Games and AMD Live! Kid Rocket, AMD said.

AMD’s Live! Communicator uses video and audio communications over the Internet, much like the VOIP services offered by Vonage and others. The AMD Live! Games are powered by WildTangent, whose games can be downloaded via the Internet. Finally, AMD’s Kid Rocket browser is designed to allow kids to play games and surf the web in a controlled environment, the company said.
