It looks like Wal-Mart won’t be offering everything to consumers like they usually do. They canceled (without any notice or word) their video download for web consumers after less than a year. Wal-Mart stated that they were forced to shut down after HP discontinued the technology that was used to keep it up and running. Instead of looking for someone else to work with they have decided to abandon the service all together.

The war between Blu-ray and HD DVD’s is one of the biggest blowouts for the year and it doesn’t look like it will be dying down anytime soon. Both sides are throwing everything they got at each other and pushing their merchandise as much as they can (especially during the holidays) trying to persuade consumers that the other is the best. It’s an intense battle and many of us are eager to see who will win.
IBM has created a new program – Personal E-mail Search (IOPES) – which will allow users to sort through their e-mails by date and phone numbers or they can even create a method of their own. After installing the software onto their personal computers – the program will analyze what the user has and will index it.
Searches are conducted through a browser interface that delivers results through a stripped-down, Google-like interface.
Users can enter simple keyword-based queries or ones using basic natural language constructions. For example, to find e-mails from a friend named Mark Smith, you could simply enter “from Mark Smith.” But to find only the e-mails Smith sent in a certain month, a query might be constructed as “Mark from January 2007.” You could find his phone number by typing “Smith’s phone number.”
